Troubleshooting

Common Dante Audio Issues

Discovery failures, no audio, dropouts, clock errors, AES67, speaker output

Issue 1 — Device Not Appearing in Dante Controller
  1. Check PoE LED on switch port — confirm power
  2. Controller PC must be on the same VLAN as Dante devices (mDNS doesn’t cross VLANs without DDM)
  3. Verify IGMP snooping enabled on Dante VLAN
  4. Test by connecting device to unmanaged switch to isolate VLAN issue
  5. Check device Web GUI — confirm valid DHCP address on correct subnet
Issue 2 — Device Visible But No Audio
  1. Confirm subscription is active — solid green checkmark (flashing/red = error)
  2. Check source input gain on AUD-DTE-ECODE/LINEIN/XLRIN
  3. Check output volume — for AUD-DTE-2CHAMP verify master volume in Web GUI
  4. Confirm correct output mode on AUD-DTE-2CHAMP (Lo-Z vs Hi-Z)
  5. Check for clock error in Dante Controller Clock Status tab
Issue 3 — Audio Dropouts or Glitches
  1. STP (most common): Enable PortFast on all Dante device ports
  2. Flow control: Disable IEEE 802.3x on all Dante ports
  3. QoS: Verify DSCP EF (46) is honored by the switch
  4. Increase latency to 10ms if multiple switch hops exist (Dante Controller Device View)
Issue 4 — Clock Error in Dante Controller
  1. Open Clock Status tab — identify PTP master and devices with sync errors
  2. “No synchronization” = device not receiving PTP clock. Confirm all are on same VLAN/L2 segment.
  3. For AES67: switch must support IEEE 1588 PTP and not block PTP packets
  4. Manually set preferred PTP master if multiple masters cause conflict. Power cycle affected device.
Issue 5 — AES67 Device Not Exchanging Audio
  1. Enable AES67 mode in Dante Controller → Device View → AES67 tab
  2. Switch must support IEEE 1588 PTP hardware timestamping
  3. Verify both devices use the same multicast address range
  4. Confirm IGMP snooping + querier active for AES67 multicast groups
Issue 6 — AUD-DTE-2CHAMP: No Speaker Output
  1. Confirm impedance switch correct: Lo-Z (4Ω/8Ω) for direct speakers, Hi-Z for 70V/100V
  2. Speakers must be on correct terminal: Lo-Z uses 4/8Ω AMP OUT; Hi-Z uses 70V/100V AMP OUT
  3. Web GUI: master volume above minimum, unit not in auto standby
  4. Verify Dante subscription is active to the correct amplifier receiver channel

Diagnostic Checklist

PoE confirmed — all device switch ports
Controller PC on same VLAN as Dante devices
IGMP snooping + querier enabled
QoS DSCP EF (46) honored
STP PortFast + flow control disabled
Subscriptions active (green checkmarks)
No clock errors in Dante Controller
Input/output gain levels checked
Correct output mode on AUD-DTE-2CHAMP
