When using a traditional HDMI device, such as a DVD/BluRay Player, the HDMI output provides 5v of power, through the HDMI connection. Mobile devices for the most part do not provide that 5v output. When using any type of extender or booster, these devices rely on the 5v power provided through HDMI. Since laptops and mobile devices do not provide the 5v output, the extenders or boosters will not detect the signal. You may want to look for an HDMI Device called "Active Adapter."
