Application Notes: Digital Signage with H.265

Overview

H.265 AV over IP is ideal for digital signage where bandwidth efficiency matters and multiple displays must receive the same content simultaneously. One encoder feeds unlimited decoders via multicast at no additional bandwidth cost.

Recommended SKUs

  • AVO-IP265-4K — 4K60 H.265 Encoder/Decoder (one per content channel)
  • AVO-IP265-HD — HD H.265 Encoder/Decoder (one decoder per display)
  • AVO-IPCTL-265 — IP Controller for H.265 (centralized routing)

Typical Setup

  1. Connect one H.265 encoder per content source to the managed switch.
  2. Connect one H.265 decoder per display to the managed switch.
  3. Enable IGMP snooping on the switch.
  4. Use the controller or encoder web GUI to route content channels to display groups.
  5. For zoned signage, use one encoder per zone and route each to the relevant decoders.
